Lisa Masarati - Early Years and EHCP Advisor
Lisa Masarati BA (Hons) QTS NASENCo
I have been working in education for the last 15 years, initially as a mainstream teacher and Early Years Foundation Stage Coordinator. After 6 years of teaching, I started working for Surrey County Council as an Early Years Advisory Teacher supporting schools, nurseries and preschools to implement the Early Years Foundation Stage Curriculum. Part of this role involved supporting pupils with special educational needs. This support involved initial identification of need, implementing strategies and individual support plans, liaising with parents and a range of professionals and supporting the process of applying for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs) and other funding. I have also participated in the Early Years SEN panel for Surrey SE.
For the past 2 years I have worked as a SENCO, Inclusion Leader and Deputy Safeguarding Lead in a mainstream school. I have recently completed my post graduate qualification - the National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordination.
My commitment to supporting pupils with special educational needs has been strengthened by having a son with Autism. I know first hand the challenges this can entail. I am passionate about sharing my experiences as an Autism parent and expertise as an SEN professional to empower parents with the knowledge they need to support their children and get the right support in place.
Through PAST, I am excited to be able to offer a range of services for parents of young children with Autism and other additional needs. I can provide advice and information for parents of children with a new diagnosis who are often left with a couple of leaflets and many unanswered questions from the Paediatrician. I am also able to support with the process of applying for additional funding and EHCPs. I am very experienced in working with nurseries and schools and can observe pupils in these settings and make recommendations on strategies and other provision. In the future, I am also hoping to develop training packages for both parents and professionals on how to support young children with Autism. I have a qualification in training adults and am experienced in writing and delivering a range of different courses.
I am really looking forward to working with you and your child.
